  • Mission Quilters

Every year, the Lord of Life Mission Quilters sew hundreds of quilts for world relief. On Quilt Dedication Sunday, all of the quilts are placed over the pews so that everyone can enjoy seeing them before they are boxed up and shipped all over the world. A quilt is special. It brings warmth on a cold night, shelter from the sun on a hot day. It can become a bed, a room divider, or a backpack to carry belongings. Each quilt crafted with love is a gift to God.

  • Layettes/Loopy Ladies

Since 1985, talented women at Lord of Life have been assembling layettes for families in need. Diapers, receiving blankets, and other baby items are collected throughout the year. Many are handmade. The "Loopy Ladies" have crocheted countless afghans and sweaters. Once a year, on "Make a Difference Day," a group gathers to assemble the layettes, after which they are counted, boxed, and delivered to Lutheran World Relief.

  • Prayer Blankets

The Prayer Blanket ministry, which began in 2004, provides prayer blankets to individuals who are going through difficult times. The lap-size fleece blankets remind the recipients that they are not alone, that there are people who care about them and are praying for them. In 2008, the ministry was expanded to include men and women of the military who have come back wounded physically and/or emotionally.

  • Food Pantries

Hunger knows no season. The "Caring and Sharing" program is a ministry of the women of Lord of Life. Each week, members of the congregation place food and other items in the "Moses basket." Donations are distributed to families and individuals in need, and to the area food pantries listed below:

    • Hanover Township Food Pantry
    • Schaumburg Township Food Pantry
    • WINGS (Women In Need Growing Stronger)
    • Vital Bridges (HIV/AIDS patients)

  • Gardens

Members of the Schaumburg Garden Club raise fresh vegetables in a “Pantry Garden” of nearly 4,000 square feet on Lord of Life property. All of the harvest is donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry, which serves approximately 450 households every month. In a typical summer, the garden yields over 1,000 pounds of tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, onions, zucchini, squash, broccoli, and peppers. Thanks to the Schaumburg Garden Club for partnering with Lord of Life to provide this vital ministry!

el salvador

Lord of Life generously contributes to several ministries in El Salvador, including the Hope House, a day shelter for the homeless in San Salvador. Lord of Life continues to raise funds to help with the day-to-day expenses of this ministry. Every 50 cents provides a meal.

In addition, Lord of Life has been supporting Pastor Matias Bonilla and his wife, Pastora Martina, for many years. This dedicated couple shepherds five Lutheran congregations in the mountain area outside of San Salvador. The five congregations are Miracle of God, Lord of Life, Spirit of Joy, Rutilio Grande, and New People of God.
